Vinyl Window Brand Pricing

Vinyl windows are by far the most popular frame material on the market. Because of this there are hundreds of American manufacturers or brands available for purchase. Roughly half of these manufacturers build cheap vinyl windows that won’t hold up very well time. This is what you want to avoid - crappy windows that won't last.

However, it’s tricky to know the quality brands from the cut rate ones just by looking. (It's not unlike looking at two cars side-by-side and thinking they look more or less the same.) Here is a list of 10 premium brands, 10 good / decent brands and 10 cheap window brands.

Premium Vinyl Window Brands

Anlin | Champion | Don Young | Harvey | Ideal | ProVia | Soft-Lite | Okna | Polaris | Sunrise

Good Vinyl Window Brands

Amerimax | Apex Energy Solutions | Burris | Custom Window System | Eastern Architectural Systems | Gentek | Gerkin | Great Lakes | PGT | Simonton

Cheap Vinyl Window Brands

Alpine | American Craftsman | American Jewel | Amsco | Cascade | Comfort World | Crestline | Crystal | Jantek | Silverline

Vinyl Windows Cost By Product Level

Let’s make this a bit more complicated, shall we? Most manufacturers make multiple windows and or doors. So, for instance, they will make a base series, a mid range series, and a premium series. Typically the base model will use a less sturdy frame ( frame depth and individual extrusions), hardware, components, as well as thinner insulated glass units.

The mid range series will often use a sturdier frame, better insulate glass units and better vinyl components and hardware. The premium series will often have as the same basic building blocks, but will include more color options, metal hardware, interior wood species upgrades. Basically more bling. The best over all value is typically the mid range series fyi.

Obviously, the mid range option is more expensive than the base model and the premium model is the most expensive. As a rule of thumb the mid range will add 25 percent to the base model cost and the premium will be 25 more than the mid range option.

Vinyl Window Installation Cost

There are four main types of window replacement installation. These include insert (or retrofit), retrofit plus additional work, new construction (also often called full frame), and historic home installation. Here are the basics of each and the cost associated with each approach.

Insert Window Installation

What is insert window installation? This is the easiest and least expensive of the installation options. First, the existing window is literally cut out of the frame. The installer cleans up the area, inserts the replacement window and then screws it into place. He then seals and caulks the window and adds any finishing touches to make it look nice.

Insert Window Installation Cost

$100 to $200 Per Window

Retrofit With Additional Work

What is retrofit with additional window installation? Generally, this is what I described in the previous section, but with some additional work to the sills, frames, or finishing work. To be honest, this is the most common installation type in the field. Very often, homes go with insert or retrofit installation, but require some additional work to make the new windows look and function well.

Retrofit W/Addl Window Cost

$150 to $300 Per Window

New Construction Window Installation

What is new construction window installation?

New Construction Window Installation Cost

$300 to $500 Per Window

Historic Home Window Installation

What is historic home window installation? Installation on historic homes is trickier than normal installation due to the restrictions that historic homes require. In fact, it is very rare for historic homes to have ever used vinyl windows. So while I have included this designation here, this is pretty rare for any home with vinyl windows.

Historic Window Installation Cost

$250 to $400 Per Window

Vinyl Windows Costs : Upgrade Prices

Vinyl window upgrades can account for an additional 25% to the per window cost for any window. Here is a list of available upgrades, along with a general price range for each.

Exterior Capping: $75 per window

Exterior Frame Color: $100 to $200 per window

Interior Frame Color: $100 to $200 per window

Wood Laminate: $75 to $150 per window

Low-e2 Glass: $50 to $100 per window

Low-e3 Glass: $100 to $150 per window

Frame Foam Fill: $50 to $75 per window

Lift Rail reinforcement: $50 to $75 per window

Metal Hardware: $25 to $50 per window

Upgraded Spacer: $25 to $50 per window

Location

Location definitely affects price. However, this is a tough one to explain with any sort of precision due to the variations of location (state to state, expensive state versus inexpensive states, etc). Generally speaking, rural locations are less expensive due to lower labor costs (however some rural locations can be very expensive when they are very posh). Conversely, the more urban the location, typically the higher the cost for installation prices. This isn’t always the case, but generally speaking, it is.

Missouri Vinyl Replacement Windows

Hi Dane, I live in Hannibal, Missouri in the northeast corner of the state. So our home is 31 years old and has Pella wood windows which we are starting to have trouble with and would like to replace them with a quality vinyl window. Also, we are limited with window replacement companies here. Thus far, I have gotten an estimate from Doors and More in Quincy, Ill which is 20 miles from here. The windows are ProVia Endure, 10 windows double hung installed for $15,734.

Also, I have contacted Abney home improvement which sells Vinyl Kraft but have not heard back from them and after doing some research I realize those windows are not as good as ProVia Windows. Unfortunately, we do have a Lowes here but really not impressed with Pella’s windows. So I am hoping you could give me some reputable companies that would be willing to come here and give me some estimates on installing quality windows in our home. Thanks.

Daniel, the ProVia Endure is an excellent option, one of the best. Not cheap, apparently - that's quite a bit per window, although without another bid to compare it to it's tough to say. Additionally, I agree with you on the Vinyl Kraft selection, although not a bad vinyl window all things considered. But not in the same category as the ProVia Endure.

And yes, I'm not the biggest fan of Lowes selection or how they do their installation with subs (often hard to track the reliability of the subs). I don't know of any companies per se in your area, but I can absolutely share my list of brands/options.

Vinyl Windows Cost 2025

Hi Dane, I’ve learned a lot from your site and really appreciate the information. So I’ve been busy getting quotes and was leaning toward double hung vinyl Sunrise Restoration windows (14) for 10,000. Also, not sure if this is fair pricing, but no-one is selling the same windows around here so it’s hard to compare.

Unfortunately, while doing my homework I’ve discovered it’s not energy star window rated for this area. Should this be a deal breaker? I liked the thinner frame.

I also had a quote for the Okna vinyl 500 ($14,000 for 14) and Okna vinyl 800 (15,387 for 14). What are your thoughts? Thank you!

Lydia, I'm surprised that the Sunrise Restorations isn't energy star compliant - when I googled that specific question, the AI said it was energy star rated for all four climate zones (who knows their source though). Further, the literature (see below) from MI Windows and Doors backs up the answer that the Sunrise series is energy star compliant in all 50 states (and the Restorations is an upgrade from the Sunrise "Classic" 4500 series).

Restorations Brochure Download

Regardless, it's an excellent window that achieves impressive performance numbers. Personally, it would not be a deal breaker for me at all -- the numbers are the numbers and they all indicate the Restorations as one of the best performers in the business.

Having said that, the Okna 800 is the better performer of the two windows. The Okna 500 windows is roughly the same as the Restorations numbers wise so the Sunrise at $10K is the much better deal here. If the installer gets good reviews, that's what I would go with...unless you're getting a state tax credit for the energy star that would make the Okna series the cheaper of the two when all is said and done.

Competing Window Price Quotes

Good Evening Dane, I'm looking for some input. My wife and I started our search for replacement vinyl windows a little awhile ago, after she went to a home renovation expo. We first had champion come through with a $25k bid for 13 windows. (not a chance) We had a $45k bid for all of our windows from Renewal by Anderson. (not a chance)

Window Depot of the Upstate came through and quoted Wincore 7700 for all of our windows at $18,719. That's 12 Double Hung, 2 gliders, and 2 Pictures averaging $1169.94. Southern Industries came by and gave a similar quote for Wincore 7700 windows. ZEBB Home Renovations (don't have my trust or any reputation) came around just this weekend and bid $15k flat also for Wincore 7700 windows.

Before this weekend I wasn't a well informed consumer and didn't know window brands or manufacturers. I learned about u-factor, SHGC, VT, etc. this weekend too. It seems very odd now that everyone so far offered Wincore 7700, especially when Window Depot offers Provia on their website. Their price seems closer to what I would have expected Provia Endure to cost for all my windows. Even then it still seems high.

Have prices really inflated this much? It feels like these companies are trying to take advantage of us. We are both in our twenties. Let me know what you think! I'm going to contact American Made Windows of The Upstate next. They work with ViWinTech windows, vinyl design, Vytex Windows, and ProVia. The product they recommend online is Vytex Fortis window. Is this better than Provia Endure?

David, first off, you are doing a good job by collecting the bids and seeing what’s out there and getting the price quotes. Honestly, this is the only way to see what the market price in your area is — there are lots of factors that go into pricing so it’s kinda of tough to say if prices have inflated or your project requires additional work - it’s probably a bit of both I’m guessing.

Very odd on the Wincore 7700 bids, but not unheard of. Personally, I like the ProVia brand over the Wincore - the ProVia Endure is a very nice unit and one that will last and perform well given a quality install. The Wincore 7700 is a good unit as well. As a brand, probably on par with the ViWinTech windows price bid.

I’d go back to Window Depot and inquire abt ProVia and what their vinyl windows cost are on your project. Then collect the bid(s) from american made windows of the upstate and let’s circle back and see what we have in terms of bids. It’s a process and not always a particularly pleasant one - but I say do it once and do it right! And 12 years down the road, you’ll be happy you did.
